Hey Buddy! NBC Is Animating Elf for the Holidays, With Jim Parsons in the Lead Role

Bazinga all the way! NBC is producing a stop-motion animated holiday special based on Elf, and The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons will lend his voice the titular toymaker named Buddy, the network announced Friday.

The role of the optimistic (and tall) elf was famously originated by Will Ferrell in the 2003 holiday film, which was later adapted into a Broadway musical. NBC's take on the character and his story is titled Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas and will offer an "all-new retelling" of Buddy's journey from the North Pole to New York City as he sets out to meet the father he never knew he had.

Joining Parsons in the voice cast are Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Gilbert Gottfried, Kate Micucci, Rachael MacFarlane, Max Charles and Steve Higgins.

Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas will air Tuesday, December 16 at 8pm on NBC.
