High School Football Player Kicks Helmetless Opponent, Gets Attacked by Player's Family in Locker Room After Game

More craziness in the world of high school football.

Has high school football always been as crazy as it has been so far this season—or are we just hearing about it more often now thanks to the Internet? Whatever the case, we have already seen H.S. players attacking referees (on more than one occasion!) as well as H.S. players attacking fellow players right on the field. But the latest H.S. football incident could have potentially been way worse than any of the other incidents that have taken place.

On Friday night, two California high schools, Lakewood and Long Beach Millikan, squared off. It was a pretty intense game that featured some really hard hits, as you can see in the video above. At one point, a Millikan player was even spotted kicking Lakewood player Victor Bates in the head after his helmet fell off during a play. So when the game was over, the family of a player from Lakewood—possibly Bates' family, though that is yet to be confirmed—reportedly entered the Millikan locker room and attacked four players. None of them were injured badly, but police reports have been filed and charges will likely be pressed.

Here's part of a statement that was released by the Millikan football program:

After the Millikan vs Lakewood football game, our players were headed to Lakewood locker room to collect their belongings. Security unlocked it for them and along with a coach and trainer, they headed in. A Lakewood player's family pushed the security guard aside and then attacked 4 of our players. Two were struck in the face and two were grabbed by the neck. Physically bruised but I am sure emotionally not okay. This all happened in less than 30 seconds and the family was out before the coach and trainer could do something. Fortunately, they know who they are and arrests are the next step. Both Millikan and Lakewood administration are involved along with police reports being filed. This will not be hidden and will not go away, rest assured.

The stuff that's happened on the field during high school football games this season has been bad enough. Now we have to hear about this kind of thing happening off of it, too? Come on.
