Hilary Rosen Apologizes to Ann Romney Over Mom Flap

Under fire from Democrats and Republicans alike for her comments that Ann Romney "has actually never worked a day in her life," Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen issued an apology on Thursday.

"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen said in a statement provided to National Journal by her communications firm, SKDKnickerbocker. "Let’s declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.” She added that her words were "poorly chosen."

"As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is," she wrote.

Earlier on Thursday, Ann Romney appeared on Fox News, saying that people need to "respect women in all those choices that they make," including the choice to be a stay-at-home mother. She also insisted that she understands the plight of average American women.

"I know what it's like to struggle. And if maybe I haven't struggled as much financially as some people have, I can tell you and promise you that I've had struggles in my life," she said.
