Hooray, the SAG Award nominations, that is the award nominations given out by the Screen Actors Guild actors union, have been announced. There aren't too many surprises, but let's take a look at them anyway. Awards season!

These are just the movie nominations, because who really cares about TV? The Emmys were so long ago, and like Steve Carell is still on the list, that's how out-of-time TV awards in the winter are. Really, all we care about right now is movies, so here's just movies.

So that's them! Again, only a few surprises here, like Demian Bichir for A Better Life and all the Bridesmaids love, but really what this tells us is that, unsurprisingly, The Artist is a frontrunner for Best Picture at the Oscars. And why is that? Well, because The Artist is about Old Hollywood, and boy does Hollywood love to memorialize itself. This thing could likely ride the Harvey Weinstein-generated buzz wave all the way to a win in February.

Another interesting thing here is that this seems to imply that The Help is going to get a handful of nominations come Oscar time, which is a little ridiculous. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were certainly good in the movie, but c'mon. It was summertime hokum. But, like The Blind Side before it, The Help seems to be taking the Feel-Good train all the way to the Kodak Theater. Which, with this latest big awards announcement, feels ever closer. We'll say it again: Awards season!
