    Hombre de Maine se lanza en paracaídas por 1ra vez: a los 90 años

    PITTSFIELD, Maine, EE.UU. (AP) — Un hombre que aprendió a usar paracaídas como piloto de la Marina de Estados Unidos durante la II Guerra Mundial, pero que nunca tuvo que lanzarse, por fin hizo su primer salto: a los 90 años.

    Lester Slate, de Exeter, Maine, saltó por primera vez el domingo desde un avión en el Aeropuerto de Pittsfield. Lo acompañó hasta el suelo un guía con el que iba adosado y lo escoltó uno más que llevaba como una flameante bandera de Estados Unidos.

    El ex piloto se regaló el salto en paracaídas por su 90 cumpleaños. Más de 50 parientes y amigos presenciaron el salto.

    En declaraciones al diario Bangor Daily News (http://bit.ly/Myr0gb), Slate dijo que se inspiró en el ex presidente George W. Bush, quien saltó en paracaídas en 2009, al cumplir 85 años.

    El nonagenario afirma que le encantó la experiencia y que espera repetirla cuando cumpla 95 o 100 años.
