Local law firm partners with ASU units to bring Entrepreneurship event to community.
(PRWEB) January 11, 2012
"We have supported entrepreneurship for 25 years and always look for ways to support an ecosystem that nurtures emerging companies in Arizona,” says Hool. “Helping to launch student conceived ventures through the Venture Catalyst Demo Day allows us to help bridge student ingenuity with commercial reality. It is a real positive from every perspective and matches Hool Law Groups’ goals perfectly."
The Summit will feature much more than just Demo Day, providing a variety of “plug and play” workshops that will address several different topics of interest to entrepreneurs.
"We are thrilled to kick off 2012 with this unprecedented entrepreneurship summit and demo day, which is open to all ASU students, faculty, and staff,” says Brent Sebold, Venture Manager for the Edson Accelerator. “ASU is leading the way in collegiate entrepreneurship. Having just dominated Entrepreneur magazine's collegiate entrepreneur of the year competition, and readying ourselves to host this year's Ashoka Exchange conference in February, ASU is poised to continue our role as a global student startup catalyst."
Summit attendees will also experience networking opportunities, a keynote address from Arizona native and ASU alum Courtney Klein Johnson, and a closing awards ceremony where the Demo Day pitch winners will be announced. Also announced at the awards ceremony will be the finalists in ASU’s Innovation Challenge.
“Almost 190 applications were submitted to the Innovation Challenge this year, up 25% from last year,” said Hayfa Aboukier, University Innovation Fellow at ASU. “The innovations presented this year are the best yet, and the entire IC staff is very excited to announce the 30 finalists at this year’s Demo Day awards ceremony.”
As Sebold explains, "The demo day is unique because it's focused on execution, rather than business planning or conceptual startup ideas. Prizes will be awarded to companies who have demonstrated that they have successfully executed significant aspects of their business plans within the past six months. This competition is all about "doing," not just "talking.""
