    Hospital chief testifies about Brooks' donation

    CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma hospital executive discussed country singer Garth Brooks' request that the facility return a $500,000 donation in an email to staff members in March 2009, according to trial testimony Thursday.

    Brooks wants the Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in his hometown of Yukon to return the money, claiming in a lawsuit that hospital administrators reneged on their pledge to name a part of a medical complex after Colleen Brooks.

    The Tulsa World reports that the hospital president's March 2009 email about Brooks' request for the money back was discussed during testimony Thursday. The email from CEO and President James Moore stated the hospital "may not deny Garth access to the money," but could "make him work to get it."

    Moore on Thursday reiterated his earlier testimony that he never made an agreement with Brooks on naming rights in connection with the $500,000. He said the gift from Brooks was anonymous and "unrestricted," meaning Integris could use the money at its discretion.

    Defense attorney Terry Thomas showed jurors a September 2008 email from Brooks to Moore. In it, Brooks said, "... I'm not sure what our understanding is," but "... we have to come to some agreement ..."

    Earlier, Moore testified that Brooks considered donating up to $15 million if the facility would rename itself after his mother. An internal document from the hospital quotes Brooks as saying a $15 million gift for naming rights was "exactly" what he had in mind.

    Colleen Brooks died of cancer in 1999. A women's center never was built.

        i hope mr brooks gets his money back and if he still wants to use it in memory of his mom use it with some other facility, be VERY specific, canny and legalistic

      As I said before, the hospital just go ahead make a sign with his mother' name and have it put up in any building of the hospital. How much the sign cost people?. Very cheap I guess, but I think the hospital was waiting for Brooks to give $ 15,000,000 in full in order to plan out. But so far they only collected $ 500,000 is for something else .....

      Doesn't sound too promising that he will win this case. He should have gotten the terms in writing-used a lawyer to officiate it. Build a Park or community center in your Moms name, do someone else some good, and that would be a far better tribute to your Mom for years to come.

      Garth Brooks cannot take care of his finances and needs the money back for his own use. Brooks is not the person everyone thinks he is. I remember when he first started appearing in Vegas he wanted to keep the prices down so everyone can afford to see his show, that was short lived, its not over $225 a seat to see his show, I don't think that a price anyone can afford.

      $500k is really a very puny donation to a hospital. That wouldn't pay for much of anything. You can't even buy a small house for that amount of money where I live. No way would any hospital name a wing for someone for such a lousy donation.
