House panel begins putting NH budget together
House Finance Committee begins putting New Hampshire budget together for April 3 House vote
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- The University System of New Hampshire wouldn't get all the additional aid it is hoping for under a plan House budget writers are considering.
There would be no state aid for new charter schools or new school building projects either.
The House Finance Committee begins assembling its budget recommendation Tuesday for the full House to vote on April 3.
A subcommittee is recommending giving less of an aid increase to the university system and continuing a moratorium on charter schools and school construction. The subcommittee is supporting Gov. Maggie Hassan's proposed aid increases to the community college system.
Another subcommittee is recommending reducing the amount of hospital aid for charity care Hassan recommended. The same subcommittee is supporting Hassan's spending levels on services for the disabled and mentally ill.
