Indianapolis (AFP) - IndyCar officials confirmed Friday that Houston, which hosted two races each of the past two seasons, will not be on next year's schedule.

The two Grand Prix of Houston races were staged the past two seasons on a temporary circuit but no date could be arranged for next season.

"(IndyCar) will always keep our options open when it comes to an important market like Houston," IndyCar chief executive Mark Miles said.

The announcement came days after IndyCar announced a new race for 2015 would be staged just outside New Orleans, the Grand Prix of Louisiana.

In another announcement, the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park northeast of Toronto said on its website that the road course has spoken with IndyCar officials about hosting a race in 2015.

Toronto will play host to the Pan American Games next year and that has forced a one-year change in plan for organizers of Toronto's IndyCar event, staged usually on the city streets on a temporary course.

"Understandably, the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games have forced us to consider alternative dates and venues for next year's race," Honda Indy Toronto president Charlie Johnstone said in a statement by the track.

"We've worked tirelessly to explore all options and are close to making an announcement regarding when and where we'll be racing in 2015."
