HuffPost's Old CTO Is Building a New Project in HuffPost's Old Offices

Following news that The Huffington Post's one-time tech wizard would be leaving the company in March, new details are emerging about his new plan to work with his old colleagues on a startup project. BetaBeat's Ben Popper got the scoop that former HuffPost CTO Paul Berry "will be reuniting with the old gang, Ken Lerer and Jonah Peretti, as he builds out a startup called RebelMouse and a new incubator focused on viral and social startups," Berry told BetaBeat. "I can't say too much right now, but RebelMouse will be a social platform, and I’m working with Lerer Ventures, Kenny and Eric [Hippeau, former HuffPost CEO]." Lerer Ventures is based out of the sunny loft space (above the Dean and Deluca) that saw HuffPost grow from a small newsroom of a couple dozen bloggers to a multi-million dollar new media empire, and former Huffington Post president Greg Coleman recently signed on as an advisor to Peretti's site BuzzFeed. While it's unclear if Berry's Rebel Mouse project will be based out of HuffPost's old headquarters, BetaBeat says Berry will be involved with the incubator being built there. The update on Berry's plans comes just hours after it was revealed that Nico Pitney would be stepping down as The Huffington Post's No. 3 editor. Given the number of former HuffPosters in the mix, it would appear that Berry and the 560 Broadway crew are gearing up for another big success. "Full circle" is the obvious cliché to mention here, but for the sake of the geekiness, let's just say "infinite loop."
