With national efforts, like Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign, focusing on making healthful food accessible, it is clear that standard vending machines, which are used predominantly by children, are not working harmoniously with these efforts, but rather against them.
HUMAN is taking an industry that is notorious for being unsustainable in its environmental and health impact – the $30B vending industry – and turning it on its head! No longer does “vending” have to equate to body-harming food coming from an energy-inefficient machine. HUMAN only vends foods and drinks that have been approved by a panel of health experts, including doctors and registered dietitians. The machines’ state of the art technology is up to 50% more energy efficient than its competitors’, features credit card readers and remote sensors that automatically track inventory and product expiration dates, and has the capability to vend chilled and frozen healthful entrees, which can be microwaved internally. In addition to providing healthful food options, HUMAN machines educate the consumer at the point of sale by providing nutrition-related information, such as tips on how to read a nutrition label, via high-definition LCD screens that display streaming videos.
HUMAN’s network of partner operators, which includes several professional athletes and Special Forces military members, can be found carrying the torch of social entrepreneurship by hosting sampling events at their local schools and community centers to educate consumers on the variety and appeal of healthful foods.
In response to a recent sampling event held at Orchard Park Middle School by HUMAN operator partners NFL player Jon Corto and his wife, Jen, reporter and doctor Peter Ostrow said of HUMAN’s machines: “...reading that LCD screen may encourage the kids to start reading labels, then they'll realize that the snacks they enjoy don't have to be loaded with fats, processed foods, and sugar.
