Huntsman continues attacks on Perry over global warming, evolution, Bernanke comments

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said voters might not see Texas Gov. Rick Perry as “someone who is serious on the issues,” in an interview to be aired Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

The Hill reports Huntsman’s statement was in response to Perry’s attack on Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Perry said Bernanke would be treated “pretty ugly” in Texas if the Federal Reserve printed more money, and said it would be considered “almost treacherous — or treasonous.” (Huntsman takes to Twitter to ding Perry on evolution)

“I’m not sure that the average voter out there is going to hear that ‘treasonous’ remark and say that sounds like a presidential candidate, that sounds like someone who is serious on the issues,” Huntsman said of Perry.

But the attack didn’t stop there. Huntsman mocked the Texas governor’s past statement that Texas could leave the United States “anytime we want,” which many took to be an endorsement of Texas secession.

Huntsman also continued to criticize Perry for his skepticism over global warming and evolution. The former Utah governor first launched the attack on Twitter this week, tweeting: “To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.”

Huntsman continued his assault in his ABC interview: “I think there’s a serious problem. The minute that the Republican Party becomes the … anti-science party, we have a huge problem … When we take a position that isn’t willing to embrace evolution, when we take a position that basically runs counter to what 98 or 100 climate scientists have said … I think we find ourselves on the wrong side of science and, therefore, in a losing position.”

Perry wasn’t the only one of Huntsman’s opponents targeted in the interview. In fact, Huntsman criticized all of the other Republican presidential hopefuls on the debt ceiling issue, saying, “There was zero leadership on display in terms of my opponents.”

I am a native Texan and here are a few more things about Rick Perry's Texas:
Thanks to Perry the school here are ranked 47th and there is a multi-billion dollar deficit (approximately $4-billion) in the state's educational system that his policies created. He was warned by the then Republican State comptroller 5-years ago that his tax cuts were going to cause the problem that Texas schools are going through right now. Most local school districts are facing huge budget deficits some in the multi-million dollar range and are having to lay off staff and teachers just to cover these shortfalls. In addition many schools are having to increase class sizes to unheard of levels, in many incidents there are 30 or more students to a single teacher.
Here are the most recent statistics based on race on the dropout rates from the Texas Education Agency (published July 2011):
      White - 16.1%
      African-American - 22.2%
      Hispanic - 59%
There is a looming $27-billion deficit due next year for the state's budget that is not being talked about nationally but we in Texas are painfully aware of it.
As for job creation here in Texas, take a long look at the types of jobs that Perry claims to have created. For the most part these hare minimum wage jobs many of them part-time.
Also look at the number of communities appearing on the 100 poorest cities in the USA. Thirty-five of the 100 are located here in Texas.
He tried to take private land here through eminent domain so that a Spanish company, Cintra could build the Trans-Texas Corridor, a super transportation system that has since been canceled. More and more of the new highways being build here in Texas are toll-roads, the latest is the State Highway 121 project another controversial tollway project involving Cintra. Cintra would have had the right to collect tolls on the road for 50-years. A lot of questions were raised when it came out that the North Texas Tollway Authority was preventing from bidding on this project. Again there are a number of unanswered questions about Perry's relationship with Cintra that I am sure will come out during the presidential campaign.
He also pushed a program to require 13 to 15-year old middle school girls be vaccinated with a very controversial drug (Gardasil) to protect against Human Papillomavirus or HPV created by Merck, which is intended to prevent cervical cancer in sexually active females. When a lot of questions rose about his motives and he dropped his push for the program. Once again, a lot of these questions centered around his financial relationship with Merck.
These are just a few issues that will be raised during the vetting process and it is doubtful that he will be able to survive the scrutiny of the national press. As we in Texas have found out, Rick Perry is not who he purports to be. Take the time to really learn about him before you make up your mind.

we are one of the few countries that has land and building tax. historically that tax which has 2 formal non profaine names in this country was to pay for police fire and schools. It always hasbeen unfair when cities will not bother to stand up to teachers and parents and say NO MORE!!! No more moocing from the states or the federal government. I side with Perry on that point. Aim your anger where it belongs at the cities. When that does not work do not expect others to support what you gave birth to. You want it educated you pay for the education get your check book out.

The reason the black and "hispanic" dropout rate is so high is that they are a lazy bunch waiting for their next handout. That is how the libs keep them in line and in check. Do not doubt me on this because I live in one of the richest school districts in the state of Texas with a per student spending of $13000 per student per year. But the lazy "hispanics" do not and will not put forth any effort to get an education.

Attacking perry is so easy, Unless someone drags Jimmy Swagart into this I cant see a weaker character a more colourful ignorance and a more backwards farm hand intellectual position than Perry's

You have to wonder what X Gov. Huntsman had to do to be appointed the Ambassador to China, under Obama! You also have to wonder if he is still under the employment of Obama with his entry into the election. He may have received his 30 pieces of silver already, just by entering and being the Republican who sucker punches other Republicans, so the Obama owned media can try and eliminate them, as they did in 2008 so we had to vote for the weakest horse, McCain. Never underestmate the level of deceitfulness of Obama.

Don't have to wonder why he was appointed Ambassador to China; all you have to do is show more interest in facts than ignorance and look it up.
He served (after being staff assistant in Reagan's White House, and living in Taiwan for a bit) in positions under the first Bush in the Commerce dept (East Asian and Pacific Affairs), and as Ambassador to Singapore, and under Dubya as Deputy US Trade Representative.

His appointment by Obama and his acceptance is called "serving your country instead of your party" and we need more of that.

While I agree with most of what he said, I hope he emphasizes his record as governor of Utah more.
How in the world did Utah lower taxes, increase state spending AND have budget surpluses when he was Governor?
