Huntsman on the Move in New Hampshire

Huntsman on the Move in New Hampshire

Last-minute polls show Jon Huntsman finally starting to make an impact on the New Hampshire primary, but is it too little too late? The former Utah governor has been the only candidate to gain almost no traction at any point in the race, but with one day to go before the primary of the year, the numbers show him polling somewhere between 11 and 15 percent. He's still far behind front-runner Mitt Romney, but that's a big improvement — as is the size of the crowds coming out to see him speak — from his single-digit standing just a week ago and enough to have him challenging for second-place. FiveThirtyEight has him projected to finish solidly in third.

New Hampshire, of course, is a last stand for Huntsman, who needs to make a big splash to have any hope in South Carolina and beyond. However, even a third or distant second place in New Hampshire may not be enough to make a difference. Since he put no effort into Iowa and is still way behind the more conservative candidates (Ron Paul and Rick Santorum) in the South. (Current polls have Huntsman in the single digits in the next two primaries.) And giving Romney convincing wins in both Iowa and New Hampshire might be too much momentum for any candidate to overcome. A third win in South Carolina next week (where Romney has a comfortable lead) and the race is all over, but the counting. The only reason it isn't over already is because of right-wing antipathy to Romney, and for that problem, Huntsman is not the cure.

"...giving Romney convincing wins in the both Iowa and New Hampshire?" You mean the 8 votes convincing win in Iowa? lol; the one they are still contesting? Gimme a break!
      • Ryan 4 mths ago
Paul, Santorum, and Romney actually tied in the delegate race 7-7-7. It wasn't winner take all and Romney actually lost due to a miscount.
      • Kevin 4 mths ago
The Iowa caucus doesn't hand out delegates for Republicans until their primary much later.

Anyways from a statistics point of view what happened in Iowa was a tie. 8 votes is well within the margin of error so saying anyone won would be a lie.

Yeah, don't you remember Robo Romney saying it was a landslide....a real mandate????
    • George Pìmpington  •  4 mths ago
We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate.

Reagan wasnt that smart , some writer said this and RAGON just repeated it. He was a senile old fart, people that believe he did anything positive has head planted up their Arse.

It would be nice if the Muslims in the middle east were so wise. I guess they can't look at the dark ages and see how bad things were when politics and Christianity were mixed.

C ... No! Now go crawl back in that hole of yours and come back out in another 30 years after you've had time to think about the stupid thing you just said.

Romney's not a career politician... He's a wannabe career politician! lmao!

        This article is about Huntsman.

"A third win in South Carolina next week (where Romney has a comfortable lead), and the race is all over" LMAO Dude, are you for real??? He needs 1140 delegates. If Romney is lucky he will only have about 30 if he wins South Carolina... How the hell is the race over???

Oh yeah, I forgot, the MEDIA WANTS it to be over, so they have have their two puppets, Obama and Romney running against each other, pretending to offer a difference..
      • John 4 mths ago
If I were the incumbent president I would rather run against anyone on the GOP platform but Romney. So, if that is bias towards the Dems, I just don't see it. (just sayin)
      • CharlesG 4 mths ago
Simply the race is over because the media says it is.. and they will say it over and over and over again.. and then the sheep that are the electorate (And this is a UNIVERSAL problem in this country, not a Dem or GOP one) will vote the way the media told them they were going to vote because their idiots. Same reason the Tea Party won so much in 2010 and Obama won in 2008. The Media creates a narrative and only reports on things that will back up thier story, ignoring all others.
      • Jadon S 4 mths ago
Romney stand no chance against the president. He will be crush badly come november same way mccain did in 2008. Obama want romney more than he would against huntsman. It's sad to say but the GOP is going through the same thing the dems went through in the 80s. Not enough good candidates.
    • DavidK  •  4 mths ago
Wow, when did they hold the primary in New Hampshire...under the cover of darkness?

Only on ABC/Yahoo news can such a flub be made!!!
    • Spooge McGee  •  4 mths ago
No sitting delegates and the Media is already trying to crown Romney as GOP king...
    • peerl  •  Igo, California  •  4 mths ago
How can Iowa and New Hampshire be the end of the nomination procedure. As far as I know there are 50 states in the union. Why is the media disenfranchising the rest of the USA.
What is next ? Roll a dice, pick two random stats and have them elect the next President.
What the heck is going on with our republic and its election proces. We need to get away from this electorate crap. Popular vote anyone?
    • BillS  •  Kennewick, Washington  •  4 mths ago
So Paul is a conservative? Can someone explain the difference between a libertarian and a conservative?
    • carl  •  Bangkok, Thailand  •  4 mths ago
Convincing win for Romney in Iowa, let's see by "8" votes. Yes a most impressive win? Your story gives reporting facts and being objective a new meaning ,or lack there of.
    • Emily  •  4 mths ago
Heaven forbid the Republicans would actually back somebody with a brain instead of Mr. Flip/Flop..
    • sneakyd  •  4 mths ago
The poor guy doesn't stand a chance. He actually makes sense when he speaks.
    • CEE  •  Cannon Falls, Minnesota  •  4 mths ago
That a man like Huntsman has no chance says volumes about the Republican Party.

According to the Suffolk/7 News Tracking poll on Sat. 1/7/11 the #s were Romney 39%, Paul 17%, Gingrich 10%, Huntsman 9%, Santorum 9%, and Perry 1%. Today's same poll (1/8/11) shows Romney 33%, Paul 20%, Huntsman 13%, Gingrich 11%, Santorum 10%, and Perry 1%. Wouldn't the bigger story be that Paul is now only 13% away from 1st? Oh that's right, that would be the story if it were any candidate other than Ron Paul. I forgot where I was for a moment.

Romney has the money and the news, so what does he need us for?

      Romney the Wall st. thug
    • Kimberly  •  4 mths ago
Three states and its all over. Once again MSM is TELLING you who to vote for. They obviously are telling everyone that they have to vote for Romney. No need to put anymore energy or THOUGHT into it. Just do what they say. You should probably be asking why they want you to vote for Romney so bad, might not be a good sign.
    • Bedlum  •  San Luis Obispo, California  •  4 mths ago
The Media ignores Ron Pauls popularity because Military Industrial Complex Inc. and the rest of Big Money tells them to.
That’s why I’ll vote for Paul
    • David  •  4 mths ago
If Romney is selected ; I guess I'm not the only one who thinks he will be beaten by Obama in the mid term election . I like many contributors here favour Ron Paul as president to give the US a radical change of direction . I guess the US needs to be deeper into the Abyss , before Washington will encountenance such drastic changes .

Huntsman or Paul are right men for the job yet they will not win because of the media who are owned by the few corp's who simply don't want these non ash kisser's to win. It is a disgusting development for America. Keep voting out the incumbants, always.
