SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A hospital official says the stairwell at a San Francisco hospital where a patient was found dead more than two weeks after she disappeared was several hundred feet from the unit where she was being treated.
San Francisco General Hospital Chief Operating Officer Roland Pickens disclosed the information to the San Francisco Chronicle in Thursday's edition (http://bit.ly/163082C).
Another hospital official, chief nursing officer Terry Dentoni, told the newspaper the woman was being treated in a medical-surgical unit, which is for patients who require less attention. It's unclear where her room was in the unit.
Meanwhile, the medical examiner's office has confirmed the body is that of 57-year-old Lynne Spalding of San Francisco.
Spalding disappeared from her hospital room Sept. 21 and was found dead Tuesday. Authorities are investigating how she died.
