MEXICO CITY (AP) — Questions are being raised about the identity of a young man arrested by Mexico's Navy and identified as one of the sons of most-wanted drug kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
The federal Attorney General's Office says in a Friday statement that experts began working to fully confirm Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar's identity shortly after his arrest on Thursday in the western state of Jalisco.
The office released the statement after the daily Reforma newspaper published an interview with the alleged lawyer for the arrested man, who the attorney identified as Felix Beltran Leon.
The lawyer, Heriberto Rangel Mendez, said Beltran Leon is not related to El Chapo Guzman.
Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Rusty Payne said the DEA is also trying to confirm the man's identity.
