IDrive review
IDrive is a cloud-based online backup service. The iOS application allows you to sync your contacts, calendars, pictures, and videos between your IDrive account and your device, so that you can restore data at any time. You receive 5GB of space with the basic free account to back up your data.
Pros
Clear navigation: Once you've set up the app, it is very clear how to use it. The navigation system is a basic, six-icon home screen. The icons include Backup and Access and Restore and other similarly clear images and captions. The app is easy to use right away, without any confusion.
Facebook backup: This is an interesting feature that hasn't appeared in many competing products. IDrive allows you to back up your Facebook photos and videos to your cloud account.
Cons
Redundant function: There is already a lot of competition in this particular segment, and for an app to convince you to use it instead of one of the many other available services, it would really have to stand out. This is especially true on iOS devices, which have iCloud freely available to them already. IDrive doesn't seem to distinguish itself enough to warrant yet another service of this type.
Email marketing: After signing up for the service through the app, you'll get no less than three emails immediately. One welcomes you to the service, one tries to get you to invite friends, and one gives you an extra .5GB in your account for downloading the iOS app. This seems like an inefficient and annoying way to welcome new users to the app. One email or an in-app notification would have sufficed.
Bottom Line
If you don't already have a solution for backing up your phone's data and media to the cloud, IDrive would be a worthy option. It is easy to use, and the addition of a Facebook backup function makes it a good choice for people who put a lot value in the media they post to their Facebook accounts.
