IMF notes Saudi role in stabilizing world economy

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The head of the International Monetary Fund has hailed Saudi Arabia's role in supporting the world economy, following meetings with the country's king and top finance officials.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde noted Saudi Arabia's role in stabilizing the global oil market and its participation in international financial bodies in a statement issued late Saturday.

She says OPEC's largest oil producer has become "a leader in not only the oil market but also the region and the global economy."

Lagarde made no mention of new financial commitments from Riyadh following her first meeting there as head of the IMF, however.

When the hidden atrocities of SAUDI ARABIA, the most stratified and entrenched society in the world, become evident to all, THE ENTIRE AMERICAN STANCE ON HUMAN RIGHTS WILL BE SEEN AS A JOKE .

The U.S. only cares about human rights in countries that we are not totally dependent upon for our way of life.

IT IS ALL ABOUT. EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORLD MONEY MONEY MONEY!!! Forget what is moral what is right, it is just about money.

Not exactly, but in many ways it is the system with which we barter, measure our success, power, gratitude and control and plan our future. It's a double edged sword, but there is no substitute even remotely capable of replacing it, and without it, well, that's not going to happen, and even if it did, you'd still be complaining, likely louder.

I live in Saudi, and there was a minimal amount of uprising here, largely limited to one small city in the East. It was almost immediately shut down.

There's issues bubbling under the surface, but they've largely not resulted in much action.

Funny that the country she is praising would never let her dress the way she does, let alone get a job like she does.

    • anony-mouse  •  3 mths ago
Yes. We are so grateful that Saudi Arabia kept the price of much needed oil low so that the world economies would not suffer from drained finances due to energy costs. Oh Wait - that didnt happen.

LOL what? We're praising them because they're making twice the money per barrel of oil than they were 2 years ago?

This type of opinion just shows how corrupt these organizations are and what their real purpose of existence is. IMF was created by bankers, "money masters", to enslave more and more people in more and more countries. IMF does NOT care about anything except profit of its masters. It is simply a big banker at international level!

By the way, maybe Ms. Lagarde should have lived in Saudi Arabia like all other women in that country before she opened her mouth with her opinion to pump up the king.

The IMF is run by crooks and the entire organization should be executed! DEATH TO BANKERS!

Several years ago when OIL was what it is now (price/bbl), GASOLINE was almost ONE DOLLAR ($1) per GALLON ~~cheaper~~ at the pump. WAKE UP folks, it is OUR OWN PEOPLE putting the shaft to us. . .SPECULATORS and BIG OIL.
    • imam wahid  •  3 mths ago
The IMF is thanking the Saudis for selling each barrel of oil, which cost the Saudis less than a dollar to dig out of the ground, at $100. At today's economy and esprcially Europe problems and China slowing down, oil should be selling at $50 to $60. Saudi Arabia supporting the Middle East "uprising" and chaos keeps oil at $100. Saudi Arabia is the least country interested in democracy and freedom. Is the IMF on drugs or what.
