Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, is invading Super Bowl 50! During the big game, 20th Century Fox will likely unleash the film's first television spot.

The War of 1996 changed the world forever. Having a common (alien) threat allowed world leaders to put aside their petty differences to unite the globe. That led to the UN forming the Earth Space Defense program, headed by War of 96' hero David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum).

Aside from being more prepared for an alien invasion, our scientists and engineers were able to reverse-engineer the recovered alien technology, which led to major advancements in weaponry, vehicle design and consumer products.

Okay, so what do we hope to see in the Independence Day: Resurgence TV spot? I'd like a look at the lone group of alien survivors on Earth that were hinted at when Levinson came upon the alien skulls mounted on spears. Maybe a look at the death of Col. Hiller (Will Smith), who died during a test flight of the first Alien Hybrid Fighter. Perhaps, a better look at the ESD Moon Base, which will play a significant role in the film.

Tune into CBS to watch the NFL championship game between the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos and the Cam Newton-led Carolina Panthers.

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Independence Day: Resurgence lands in theaters June 24, 2016.
