Indiana's unemployment rate drops to 6.1 percent for February; lowest level since summer 2008
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana's unemployment rate has dropped to 6.1 percent, reaching the lowest level since the national recession began in 2008.
Figures released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Development show Indiana's jobless rate for February fell two-tenths of a percentage point from January's 6.3 percent. The last time Indiana's unemployment mark was this low was in August 2008.
Indiana's unemployment rate is also below the national rate of 6.7 percent for February.
The new report shows about 219,000 people were looking for jobs in Indiana last month.
Pockets of the state still have much higher unemployment rates. The highest ones are 11.1 percent in Vermillion County and 10 percent in Lawrence County.
