Indonesia's Marapi volcano erupts again, spewing ash

STORY: Footage filmed by an eyewitness showed a thick cloud of grey ash above the volcano in West Sumatra. Local residents living in one of the villages closest to Marapi were still seen engaging in daily activities.

The head of Indonesia's volcanology agency Hendra Gunawan said Wednesday's spewing of ash was relatively minor, with his comments coming after another eruption last week that killed 23 people.

The 2,891-metre 9484.91 ft (2,891-meter) high Marapi is one of Sumatra's most active volcanoes in Indonesia and straddles the Pacific’s so-called "Ring of Fire", which is home to more than 100 active volcanoes.
