Infographic: How you're being scammed on Twitter
Social networks are a seething cesspool of malicious scammers out to get you. And antivirus software maker Bitdefender wants to help keep you safe from their, grabby, grimy little mitts.
Bitdefender announced this week updates to its Safego app, which the company claims is the only such software feature “that protects users on all major social networks in addition to traditional antivirus, antimalware and spam protection.”
Safego, which launched in 2010, previously only protected against Facebook scams. With the lastest update, Twitter users are protected as well. Just install the Safego app into your Twitter account, and it will root out anyone you follow who appears to be a bot, or other type of fake or hijacked account. It also automatically scans your Timeline to find links used for phishing attacks, or which lead to malicious software.
Having just come out of beta testing, Safego’s Twitter protection will be included in a number of Bitdefender’s upcoming products, including Bitdefender Total Security 2012, Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 and Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012. It is not yet available for install, but should be soon.
