Instagram Rockets to No. 1 in App Store, in Wake of Facebook Deal

Hot on the heels of its surprise acquisition by Facebook, Instagram has leapt to the number one spot in the iOS App Store. It's the first time the photo-sharing app has risen to the top of Apple's free-app catalog, Instagram declared in a tweet.

Not only is Instagram holding the number one position in Apple's list of the top 25 iPhone apps, but it also has a solid five-star rating, averaged from 74,833 individual reviews. That means the vast majority of users who have reviewed the app have given it five stars -- the highest rating possible.

While many Instagram users expressed reservations about the app getting acquired by Facebook -- and some even appeared to be leaving the service -- it's clear then news has inspired new users to try the app for the first time, and they appear to be loving it.

"Best app ever," "I use it every day!" and "too good" are just a few typical excerpts from the many recent reviews. However, even though the reviews are almost universally positive, some Instagrammers have used their reviews to share their thoughts on the Facebook news.

"FB keep my pic private," user Sirbadteacher writes. "If Facebook changes Instagram I'm deleting my account," warns Vinniggy7. And Watergirl123 writes, "Mark better not screw up Instagram like he did to Facebook with the timeline."

Some were positive about the Facebook deal, though. User ChintanS says "Good job FB for buying this."

Instagram launched an Android version of the app last week. After an initial rush of downloads, the app has settled into the number three spot among free apps in Google Play. The store says the app has been downloaded more than 5 million times, and it enjoys a 4.6-star rating from about 260,000 reviews.
