MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan has signed highly rated defender Danilo D'Ambrosio from Torino.

The clubs have been in negotiations since D'Ambrosio revealed he would not renew his contract at Torino beyond the summer, and on Thursday, Inter confirmed he was contracted to 2018.

D'Ambrosio says "it's so emotional to be here ... I've come a long way and now I'm at Inter, I can't be anything else but very proud."

The 25-year-old D'Ambrosio will be hoping the move boosts his chance of making Italy's World Cup squad. He's yet to play for Italy.

D'Ambrosio is new president Erik Thohir's first signing for Inter. His predecessor Massimo Moratti's first signing was club captain Javier Zanetti.

Inter visits Juventus on Sunday.
