International Organization in Micronesia Works with United Nations and European Union to Combat Human Trafficking and Sexual Violence

TAMUNING, GUAM--(Marketwired - Jun 25, 2014) - Over the past months the media has publicized awareness on human trafficking and sexual violence as displayed by public and political figures as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Angelina Jolie, a United Nations special envoy at the Global Summit End Sexual Violence in Conflict Summit in London earlier this month.

United Nations War on Human Trafficking Association of Island Nations (also known as War on Human Trafficking Association or "WOHT") has established a global alliance or member organizations by voluntary partnerships for civil society and intergovernmental affairs in affiliation with United Nations NGO Branch and European Parliament to collectively support (as a Major Group Organization) educational, awareness, financial aid, and research programs to combat sexual violence, human sex trafficking in Eastern Europe, Caribbean, and island nations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Guam congressional hopeful Cary Lee Peterson, a main representative of WOHT comments about the organization activities and upcoming event during an intervention statement at United Nations and says that 'he feels very honored and blessed to have several cooperating stakeholders, supporters, and affiliates of WOHT's mission and hopes to publicize future events on awareness following the organizations first event at University of Guam in August' (featuring keynote speakers and a film screening of Nefarious - 'Merchant of Souls', a documentary film on sexual violence and human trafficking around the world).

The organization encourages followers and supporters to check for updates at WOHT blog or social media and says that there is strong consideration for a similar awareness forum (as the event at UOG on August 9) at the 2014 Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Apia, Samoa that is still pending approval by SIDS Bureau, who is coordinating the conference.
