iOS 8.1 has been released – here’s how to download it right now!

iOS 9 is already being tested on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

As promised, Apple has just released the latest and greatest version of its smartphone and tablet operating system, iOS 8.1. It’s not quite the tremendous leap forward that iOS 8 was compared to iOS 7, of course, but it brings a bunch of great new features and fixes with it, and it probably won’t brick your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus like iOS 8.0.1 did.

Downloading and installing Apple’s new iOS 8.1 update couldn’t be easier. On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, simply open the Settings app and go to General > Software Update. The follow the on-screen instructions to download and install iOS 8.1 as an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Alternatively, you can connect your iOS device to your Windows or Mac PC with the latest version of iTunes installed and install it that way.

Apple’s new iOS 8.1 update is compatible with the following devices: iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third- and fourth-generation), iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.

And of course, iOS 8.1’s release marks the official kickoff of Apple Pay.
