    iPad 3 launch date of March 7 looking likely

    A website that called it right with the iPhone 4S’s launch date says that the iPad 3 will be unveiled on Wednesday March 7.

    In a report on its website Monday, iMore said that “according to sources who have been reliable in the past,” Apple will launch the third generation of its popular tablet in a matter of weeks, a device which it says will feature a 2048×1536 Retina display, a quad-core A6 processor and possibly 4G LTE networking.

    The rumored launch date ties in with a recent AllThingsD report which said it had information suggesting that Apple would unveil the eagerly anticipated device in the first week of next month.

    The AllThingsD report also said that the event would be held in the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, a location not unused to big Apple launches.

    As for what to expect with the new model, speculation is, of course, rife. But in contrast to last year’s largely wayward rumors regarding what turned out to be the iPhone 4S, recent reports on the kind of things we can expect with the next iteration of the Cupertino company’s tablet have been more focused.

    Besides the Retina display and quad-core processor, the iPad 3 is expected to have improved photographic capability and better battery life. If the recently released image of what was supposedly the back of the new device is anything to go by, then the actual look of the iPad 3 is expected to be pretty much identical to the current model.

    Apple’s iPad dominates the tablet market, with the company shifting more than 55 million units since its launch in April 2010. No other company has come anywhere close to matching Apple’s strong sales with tablet devices of their own. Only Amazon, with its recently launched Kindle Fire tablet, has been able to sell a similar device in any significant number, though of course its simpler, cheaper offering is located at the opposite end of the tablet spectrum.

      With an HD video camera creating ever larger files, adding a thunderbolt high speed data transfer capability will be essential. Let's hope we aren't strapped with USB 2.0 transfer speeds to get multi-hour 1080p video files on and off of the device. It's not a glamourous new feature but essential as we progress towards ever larger file sizes.

      I owned the iPad 2 and loved it at first. I eventually sold it and I am waiting for a tablet to come out that is more of a computer and less of a giant phone. Microsoft's Windows 8 tablet looks like this they will get there first in this category, which is good and bad. I just wish Apple made a "Mac Tablet" and not an iOS tablet. The iPad is good for a lot things as it is right now, but it could be so much better. The Macbook Air can be redesigned and reworked to be a tablet. Make that happen Apple and I will get a tablet from you again. I will remain tablet-less until this is accomplished by a company and it is executed well.

      People complain about these and other items being made by slave labor...My questions is how much money would these people that make them be making if they werent being paid to make these...i would think none...so slave labor or not they better be glad that they have a job

        It just seems like it just came out because it is the only tablet the press and consumers care about. But it has been out a full year now, which is a long time in tech world.

      I would hate to drop an Ipad. Don't own a tablet, since i don't have the need of one, but i will get a kindle fire and take it from there if it becomes useful.

      I will stay home, thanks! I will stick to my Wonderful laptop and my Droid phone! Owned an iPad for a while and hated it!!! It is just an oversized phone!! I thought we got away from the GIANT cel phones in the 90's!!!

        and they have put nets around the top so they will go splat on the ground. but they have them using extremely highly flammable chemicals to clean the units with so that it will dry faster so they can make more.

        Foxconn does not have more and better engineers, that is like saying they Death Camps in Germany had better managers instead of ruthless SS soldiers. How can people coming out of small villages have better educations than we do here.

        To me Tim Cook and the managers at Apple are little more than Criminals as well as Apples board of Directors which includes Al Gore. I even Voted for Gore what crook he is.

        Boycott all Apple Products.
