    iPad 3 production already underway: March launch likely

    More rumors are surfacing suggesting the iPad 3 will hit the shelves two months from now, in March.

    Such a release date would pretty much fit with previous iPad releases—the original iPad model appeared early April 2010, while the iPad 2 came out last March.

    According to a Bloomberg report, the next iteration of the popular tablet computer will incorporate a high-definition screen “with pixels small enough to make the images look like printed material.”

    It’ll also be fitted with a quad-core chip offering much faster performance and offer 4G LTE support.

    “Apple is bringing LTE to the iPad before the iPhone because the tablet has a bigger battery and can better support the power requirements of the newer technology,” the report stated.

    Bloomberg said it obtained the information from “three people familiar with the product.”

    The report also says that production of the new device has already started at Apple’s manufacturing partners in Asia, with Foxconn factories in China “running 24 hours.”

    The iPad has been a massive hit with consumers since its launch nearly two years ago, with more than 40 million units sold to date, generating more than $25 billion in sales.

    Other companies have tried but failed to come up with an iPad killer, and the Cupertino will be hoping that the latest version of its device will further cement its position as the tablet of choice for consumers.

    Whereas last year’s rumors concerning the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 failed in many cases to hit the target, rumors about the iPad 3 have been fairly consistent up to now—meaning they might actually be right this time.

      When did we, as Americans, become such a big group of haters? Why do other people's choices and actions (that don't affect us in any way) bother us so much? If someone wants to stand in line for 3 days for a new product, good for them. I'm not going to do it but it doesn't bother me that someone else enjoys it. People will rant and rage on these boards about what IDIOTS they are. You know that all of your ranting and raging will change exactly zero peoples minds, right? Which means that you spent 3 hours posting, replying, and re-replying for absolutely no reason at all. Who's the idiot now?

        Wow, your post is dead on. I have lived in Asia for the past five years, so much of my interface with the states is via the web and I am amazed at the hate in our country. We seem to hate everything and anything that represents success, or is in any way a contradiction of our own views. I was telling a friend that I seriously don't think I will move back because of it, it must be terrible to live among so much negativity.

        Dave, thanks for your comment, but you're still missing it. Apple fans don't really stand in line for the product - they stand in line because it's fun, hanging out with other people with a common interest and just feeling like a community. We don't seem to have much of that these days, so we have to take it where we can get it.

        (Note: I don't stand in lines for Apple stuff, but I did stand in line for the Wii on release date; it was cold and miserable, but still, a lot of fun. I also hung out with some of the people waiting for the PS3 a few days earlier for a little while. You could tell they were having a good time, too.)

      No one believes in having custom PC builds at home and having a tablet to establish a remote desktop connection to your PC to do your work from any location?

      To me that would be the more logical use of a tablet.

      Skip the laptop, make a custom PC build at home, get a tablet, and use it to connect to your PC anytime you need to work on a project that needs the processing power of a laptop or more.

      maybe in the future, these tablets will have great integrated graphics.

      It will help out people that are on call from their job, especially IT people like network and systems admins.

      Then again that is my two cents...and that is what I would do if I ever saved up to get a tablet.

      In the mean time, my build is working just fine.

      I use my phone to dial into my PC whenever I need to do any heavy work remotely.

      Negates the need to have a tablet. The only plus, in my opinion, is that tablets have a bigger screen.

      They are already launching quad core phones by the end of this year or earlier.

        Your post talks about not needing a tablet, but then you tell people they should get a tablet (and you have one), so you can connect to the computer. Maybe you meant you could get away with a generic tablet vice something expensive like the iPad?

        ah my bad lol. I got so caught up in the subject matter that I typed tablet instead of a smartphone.

        I do not own a tablet.

        I was suggesting either a smartphone or a tablet as an alternative to getting just a tablet or getting just a laptop.

      IPad 3 will have the same thing as iPad2 but with siri. No Flash. I don't think that it will have LTE because you have to get a data plan and a 2 year contract. To bad sheeps.

      Boycott Apple and their sanctioning Chinese sweatshop conditions at Foxconn. It's so bad there that many Foxconn factory workers have threatened suicide unless something changes! I will never purchase or deliberately use another Apple product until they change their manufacturing partners to a more humane factory! That's how they're able to price their products lower than their values, because they use sweatshop factories. The same goes for many other electronic companies, but Foxconn is just the latest in the news! Look this up, so you can see for yourself!!! Stop buying these at the cost of people's lives overseas!

        Unfortunately I don't think we as Americans care about who make the cheap crap we want. As long as we get our new iPads and new iPhones for a decent price, Chinese suffering isn't an issue for the average American. Even if a story of 10,000 Chinese people committing suicide to protest Foxconn's labor practices surfaced, We'd still buy iPads and iPhones. Texting/surfing/tweeting/facebooking is much more important than people's lives. Remember it's America after all. If it makes you feel better, I don't have any Apple products. Just my personal preference.

        this is the first lucid account of how bad it is over there.I looked it up and the workers are made to sign a contract saying they won't commit suicide.There is also a net on the roof tops to make it more difficult to do so and apple stands by and lets it happen.so stinking sad but people over here must have their status symbol.

        You might as well ask everyone to boycott the 21st century. Virtually all electronic devices are made in chinese sweatshops. A large percentage of them at Foxconn factories. It is not just Apple. By the way the latest suicide incident involved the XBOX 360 production line not Apple.

        dude apple uses one of the worst components out there besides samsung ones.. plus apple will never have newest techs... its just apple... they just upgraded their CPUs to android device level... but guess what android devices are moving on from those already

        your talking rubbish adout apple.. android is behind thats why they keep changing there software and if samsung was so good why do they have to keep copying iphone design and packaging and flooding the market with every size of screen they make, pure plastic cheap and nasty. and iv had galaxy s11 and now i have ip4s, much faster and better than google android. u prob cant afford one so u just think what u have is the best.. NOT!!!

      I just bought ipad 2 about 3 months ago. Now the new one is coming out. What am I suppose to do with my 3 months old ipad 2. Apple is aiming for its own bussiness only. why would i make them richer and richer. If ipad 3 come out, ipad 4 will come out soon as well. So, goodbye Apple. I hate you.

      How did Apple fall so far behind in technology so quickly? They've lost their "cool factor" now. There are lots of 4G LTE phones and tablets already on the market, but Apple is still playing catch-up and has nothing to offer yet. The iPhone also has a slower processor and less RAM memory than many of the phones already available. Android phones have lept ahead of Apple in leaps and bounds, but you get beat up by the Apple fanboys if you try to show them what they're missing. Sorry, Apple phones are great, but Android phones are light years ahead of them now.

      Dumb remark. It's not about iPad versus a Sony tablet, for example. That's the lie that Apple wants journalists and consumers to believe. The honest comparison is between people who by a tablet with Apple's iOS and Android.

      Apple restricts who uses iOS (only them) but an manufacturer can use Android, and most do. Putting all tablets on a level playing field, the iPad has slightly less than half of the total tablet market. Android rules. The iOS tablet by Apple is NOT the choice of consumers, Android tablets are on top.
