iPad mini could face shortage due to tough-to-produce anodized unibody case
Apple (AAPL) could face an iPad mini shortage come launch time, according to a DigiTimes report. The website cites sources from within Foxconn and Pegatron that suggest that building a black-anodized aluminum case is resulting in low yield rates because such a chassis is prone to scratching. DigiTimes’ report is in-line with previous rumblings about iPad mini production snags, despite the fact that production has begun at Foxconn in Brazil and Asia. Apple is expected to send media invites for the iPad mini on October 10th, with the actual product announcement happening as early as October 17th. Naturally, Apple will likely face shortages whether it can produce enough to meet consumer demand or not. Apple is still unable to meet the overwhelming demand for the iPhone 5, even two weeks after the device launched.
