Is your iPhone 5s battery life awful? Apple might replace it for free

If you upgraded to a new flagship iPhone 5s recently and you’re now finding that your battery drains particularly quickly, it might be Apple’s fault. Battery life is always an issue for iPhone owners and owners of just about any modern smartphone, but the issue has been made even worse for some new iPhone 5s users — Apple said on Tuesday evening that some of its new iPhone 5s handsets have a manufacturing defect that causes excessive battery drain. Apple told The New York Times that the issue only impacts a “very limited” number of handsets, but considering how short smartphone battery life is normally, the company can likely now expect a wave of related Genius Bar appointments. But sit tight, iPhone users, because Apple will contact you if you own an affected model. ”We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life,” an Apple spokesperson told The Times. “We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.”
