iPhone 6 Camera May Sport Swappable Lenses
Smartphone cameras have already put a hurting on the point-and-shoot camera market, but the rumored iPhone 6's new shooter may be the final nail in the coffin.
According to a recent patent application, Apple is working on a new smartphone camera that accepts interchangeable lenses. If the company ends up adding such a feature to the iPhone 6, it would make the handset's camera as versatile as a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

The idea of adding a lenses to an iPhone camera isn't exactly new. Third-party accessory makers have been selling snap on lenses for Apple's handsets for quite some time. The best known of these comes from Olloclip, which offers a 4-in-1 lens. Unfortunately, the accessory adds quite a bit of bulk to the otherwise slender iPhone.
If Apple were to add such a feature to its upcoming smartphone, it would need to include some kind of threading for the lens to attach to, which could make the camera's bezel stick out more than the iPhone 5s's.
It's worth noting that while patent applications and filings can give you a glimpse at what a company is working on for future products, they can also point to items that amount to little more than pipe dreams.
Apple's iPhone 6, which is expected to go on sale this fall, is rumored to feature an improved 10-megapixel camera sensor with a f/1.8 aperture lens. Further reports claim the camera will include a resin filter lens rather than the hybrid IR filter found on the iPhone 5s.
