iPhone 6 disappoints in yet another battery life test

If battery life is the single most important thing you’re looking for in a smartphone, it looks like you probably shouldn’t get the iPhone 6… though you might want to give the iPhone 6 Plus a try. Tom’s Guide has just run some battery life tests on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus that compare both devices to other rival smartphones and have found that while the iPhone 6 compares unfavorably with similarly sized smartphones, the 6 Plus does even better than comparable phablets.

Overall, Tom’s Guide found that the iPhone 6 got an average of 7 hours and 27 minutes of battery life on Verizon’s network, which is less than the smartphone average of 8 hours and 30 minutes. When compared to specific rival phones, the iPhone 6 scored worse than the Galaxy S5, which averaged 8 hours and 25 minutes on Verizon’s network, and the HTC One (M8), which scored 9 hours and 52 minutes on Verizon. The iPhone 6 did, however, score better than the LG G3, which got a paltry 6 hours and 10 minutes on Verizon’s network.

The iPhone 6 Plus, however, fared much better and got an average of 10 hours on AT&T, which bested what the Galaxy Note 3’s battery got while the phone ran on Verizon’s network. Ideally we’d have more of an apples-to-apples comparison here of phones running on the same data network, but at the very least it seems that the iPhone 6 Plus will deliver a significant boost to battery power that we haven’t seen with the iPhone 6.
