iPhone 6 sales seen topping a crazy 10 million in just the first week

Study: Millions of Android users will jump ship and buy the iPhone 6

Apple is getting ready for its most massive product launch yet with the iPhone 6, with Business Insider pointing to a new RBC note to investors that says the upcoming smartphone will be a smash hit for the iPhone maker.

“Most supply chain data is pointing towards Apple gearing up to ramp 70-80 million iPhone 6 units across the two form factors (4.7”/5.5”),” RBC analyst Amit Daryanani said. “This is a notable uptick from last year when the supply chain ramped 50-60 million units.”

By making around 75 million iPhone 6 units for 2014, Apple is increasing orders by 36% compared to its orders to suppliers received last year, the publication notes.

The analyst also believes Apple will sell about 10 million iPhone 6 units within a week from its launch. Comparatively, Apple sold 9 million combined iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units last year during their launch weekend.

Apple is expected to ship two different iPhone 6 models this year, including a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch device, both bigger than its current iPhone versions. The increase in display size is apparently the reason why iPhone demand will be even higher this holiday season than in previous years.

Various reports have indicated that Apple has placed iPhone 6 orders with Foxconn and Pegatron, telling them to make up to 80 million combined units by the end of the year.

It’s not clear though whether both iPhone 6 versions will be available in stores following the September 9th announcement event. Some reports say the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 may be delayed either because of various supply issues, or intentionally, in order not to hurt 4.7-inch iPhone 6 sales.
