The iPhone’s camera will get even more amazing with iOS 8
The iPhone is already the most popular mobile camera out there, even though many other smartphone makers are putting more and more emphasis on the camera tech in the devices they ship. With iOS 8, Apple plans to further improve the camera experience of iPhone users by adding many manual controls that will help photography fanatics take even better pictures with the iPhone.
A thorough AnandTech report reveals that in iOS 8 Apple will open up camera controls to interested users and apps in an unprecedented manner, and far beyond what it said during the WWDC 2014 announcement, explaining what this means for iPhone users.
“To be clear, iOS 8 will expose just about every manual camera control possible,” the publication writes. “This means that ISO, shutter speed, focus, white balance, and exposure bias can be manually set within a custom camera application. Outside of these manual controls, Apple has also added gray card functionality to bypass the auto white balance mechanism and both EV bracketing and shutter speed/ISO bracketing.”
“It’s been said that Apple is one of the few OEMs that take camera seriously, and these new controls can only cement that position,” AnandTech concludes.
Apple already revealed that in iOS 8 users will have access to timers and exposure settings on top of the existing default camera features in iOS 7, and introduced a new time-laps mode. But it’s the custom camera apps that will be able to take advantage of all the camera controls Apple has open access to.
