    Iran TV shows suspected US spy 'confessing'

    TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's state TV broadcast video of a young man Sunday it claimed was a CIA spy who sought to infiltrate Iran's secret services.

    The TV identified the man, apparently in his late 20s, as Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, an American-Iranian who received special training and served at U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan before heading to Iran for his alleged intelligence mission.

    "Their (US intelligence) plan was to initially burn some valuable information, to give it free so that (Iran's) Intelligence Ministry would see the good things and then would contact me," said in a part of the confession that was broadcast.

    The voice of an unnamed announcer on the video said U.S. intelligence was certain that Iran's secret services would not ignore the data. Therefore, they provided a mix of correct and false information to mislead Iran's intelligence but tempt it at the same time.

    "Iran's intelligence apparatus overcame the thirst and detected the deception, identified the intelligence corridors (Hekmati's alleged link to U,.S. intelligence) ... and contained the infiltration mission," it said.

    The TV showed a card with writing in English identifying the bearer as an "army contractor." It also showed several photos of the man identified as Hekmati, some of them in military uniform, together with U.S. army officers.

    There was no immediate comment from Washington.

    The broadcast said Hekmati was born in Arizona in the U.S. but was of Iranian descent.

    In a statement released Saturday, Iran's Intelligence Ministry said its agents identified Hekmati at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. Bagram is the main base for American and other international forces outside Kabul.

    In the video broadcast on several Iranian TV channels Sunday, Hekmati was shown saying he entered the U.S. Army after finishing high school in 2001 and received military and intelligence training.

    Before beginning his mission to Iran, Hekmati said he served as an intelligence analyst in Iraq for two years. He said his key responsibility was to identify Iraqi politicians sympathetic to Americans.

    His story could not be independently verified.

    Iran periodically announces the capture or execution of alleged U.S. or Israeli spies, and often no further information is released.

        I suspect we allowed whoever hacked the controls in the US to 'steal' a drone that was outdated, and equipped with a GPS system that reported to us where it landed, so we would know where their 'secret base' was where they retro-engineer captured technology. I wouldn't be surprised, either, if we are still listening in on their conversations via the drone.

      I'm a Marine, did two tours of duty in Iraq and I personally feel this whole Iran mess is over the top. Iran has not attacked or invaded another country in over 300 years. Yes 300 years! They are not a threat and will only become a real threat if we continue to kill their scientists, sabotage their industries, heavily sanction, and continually threaten to bomb them. Now imagine for one instance, another country doing that to us Americans. Every American would be foaming at the mouth for blood. Were all just people, trying to have a good life. Time to wake up and realize were not Barbarians anymore and this isn't the middle ages.

        I do. First the failed sandwich shop bombing, then the drone that we let them commandeer, now the Iranian James Bond capture. All propaganda. Everything evolves, including propaganda, they're finding newer and newer ways to influence our minds by exploiting the internet and technology.

        Rest assured, if there is any war, no one will survive it, since China has made it abundantly clear that they will not allow the US/Israel to attack Iran. A Chinese general said just a week ago that China would defend Iran even if that entailed WW3. It's all talk...chatter in the election cycle. Obama knows he cannot do anything about Iran, Israel knows it cannot do anything about Iran...otherwise both would have ALREADY done something, instead of turning around the rosy. Beside, I bet top dollar Iran will exchange the drone (to Russia) for S300 missiles from Russia. Once they have those, there is little, if not no chance the US/Israel would attack Iran. Simply put it is a quagmire. Any action against them would also increase the price of oil dramatically, plunging the US and Europe into a deep, deep recession...not exactly the greatest thing to have when you are trying to get re-elected.

      It might be true. It might be a lie. Who knows? Who cares? It's not like the CIA would ever admit it... well, maybe in 30 years. Like they finally admitted to overthrowing Mossadeq and installing the Shah... like they finally admitted experimenting on US soldiers and citizens with drugs and flu epidemics. Why would any American even side with the CIA? They don't give a fk about you. Say the wrong thing and you'll be on their watch list too.

      Anyway, I don't think the US is one to criticize the practice of holding people on trumped up charges. Cast the mote from thine own eye first.

      America is dying a death by 1000's cuts. The citizens of this country are like a rich mans son who inherits and squanders the family fortune because he knows nothing about what it took to acquire and maintain said fortune.
