Iran's leader: 2 planes couldn't bring towers down

WASINGTON (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that as an engineer he's sure the twin towers were not brought down by jetliners.

Ahmadinejad, in an interview with The Associated Press, says it would have been impossible for two jetliners to bring down the towers simply by hitting them. he says some kind of planned explosion must have taken place.

Ahmadinejad stopped short of saying the United States staged the disaster 10 years ago. But he says there are questions the world should resolve, and noted there are doubters in the United States as well.

Ahmadinejad was denied his request last year to visit the site of the World Trade Center collapse. He says he's not making another attempt this year. He's in New York City for the U.N. General Assembly.

OK first of all this is totally not edited. If you look carefully (you know who you are) you'll see that the editor forgot to capitalize he says blah blah blah. So if they wouldn't allow him to look at the towers, then why would he be in New York? I know better and I'm in 6th grade.

In a pure coincidence, Gaddafi impeded U.S. oil interests before the war
When the war in Libya began, the U.S. government convinced a large number of war supporters that we were there to achieve the very limited goal of creating a no-fly zone in Benghazi to protect civilians from air attacks, while President Obama specifically vowed that "broadening our military mission to include regime change would be a mistake." This no-fly zone was created in the first week, yet now, almost three months later, the war drags on without any end in sight, and NATO is no longer even hiding what has long been obvious: that its real goal is exactly the one Obama vowed would not be pursued -- regime change through the use of military force. We're in Libya to forcibly remove Gaddafi from power and replace him with a regime that we like better, i.e., one that is more accommodating to the interests of the West. That's not even a debatable proposition at this point.

What I suppose is debatable, in the most generous sense of that term, is our motive in doing this. Why -- at a time when American political leaders feel compelled to advocate politically radioactive budget cuts to reduce the deficit and when polls show Americans solidly and increasingly opposed to the war -- would the U.S. Government continue to spend huge sums of money to fight this war? Why is President Obama willing to endure self-evidently valid accusations -- even from his own Party -- that he's fighting an illegal war by brazenly flouting the requirements for Congressional approval? Why would Defense Secretary Gates risk fissures by so angrily and publicly chiding NATO allies for failing to build more Freedom Bombs to devote to the war? And why would we, to use the President's phrase, "stand idly by" while numerous other regimes -- including our close allies in Bahrain and Yemen and the one in Syria -- engage in attacks on their own people at least as heinous as those threatened by Gaddafi, yet be so devoted to targeting the Libyan leader?

There is no such word as "We" in Obama's vocabulary.

Ravi, Why would President Obama openly state that this would be a mistake, and then knowingly let them do it? Does he have any power to stop it? I think of what our Government would do if an army of the people rose up against it, and another country came in to help the people. I don't like any civil war, but we did have one, and I believe that whatever country it is, if the people themselves rise up against their leaders, there pretty much has to be a reason. If those leaders have war machines that they would use against their people, shouldn't someone help? I don't like to think that our only reason for helping is for oil or whatever else we can get. All the world wants leaders of all countries to help one another, we need the help and so do they. No country wants other country leaders to stop oil production to them etc: etc: We are of the world now so we do have to keep an eye on the leaders of other countries, as do our allies. I don't like it but that is the way it is since we are one world now and no longer self sufficient. Really no country is.

        Can you say oil?
And Gaddafi impeded U.S. oil interests?
Exactly how did he do that? since the oil is sent out to international markets and distributed by selling to the highest bidder, something no nation has much control over.
Of course the answer to your last question may be more simple than you think, Pan am flight , what was it, 773 blew up over Lockerby Scotland I don't know how to spell the name of the town but you all remember the incident.

The funniest line in the whole article is... "Ahmadinejad stopped short of saying..." Stopped short?! hahhahahahaha! This writer has a sense of humor!

I like it! They had to give him a box to stand on for his rant at the U.N. so people could see him behind the podium! He's a funny Persian midget........

We can take pictures of indivicual atoms, call people in Antartica, put fresh fruit on the table in the middle of winter, yet the world cannot seem to govern itself and produce responsible leaders on any kind of consistent basis. What a shame.

That is because A) they must be college educated and B) they must be rich, do the math.

America is the longest surviving republic on the face of the Earth, so it's doing something right. We face the greatest danger right now with our current "home alone" leader.
      • brandon 8 mths ago
There's no known microscope powerful enough to take a picture of an atom, it has never been done. They are only theoretical entities.

If the intellectual level showed by most of the posters here accurately reflects the average intelligence of the american people then that nation is finished. Calling for nuclear attacks and assasinations, it would have been funny if it wasn't so #$%$ tragical.
    • Mark  •  8 mths ago
plus didnt someone important say "it is the duty of the American citizen to question their government....." debate is good no?
    • philip  •  8 mths ago
Sigh. The problem here is that the USG HAS covered up a LOT of things in the past. So, of course the conspiracy theories abound. It's not this particular incident, but things that have happened before that were carried out for policy advocacy. Just look at wikileaks. Look at the threats to Assange. Conspiracy? No, people are openly attacking him.....because he's revealing things we don't want the public to know.
      • jes 8 mths ago
If you are in any way defending Assange for his actions you are real stupid. That moneygrubbing creep has done absolutely nothing positive with his "revelations".Open government, you say...idiot..I say.
      • philip 8 mths ago
And.....what about what he's revealed? Should those crimes be investigated?

    • abc  •  8 mths ago
That's 100% true , united states has helped more foreign countries with aid ( money ) , i don't see foreign countries help united states , know do we ???? Remember usa is broke , we need to stop helping foreign countries and take care of our own backyard. 25 million people are out of a job .........which all the foreign countries has , our jobs .

The protest gone wrong was the catalyst that brought us into Libya. around 200 deaths... since we began our intervention in Libya, there have been more than 3,000 civilian deaths since. NATO bombers are directly responsible for more or less 10-20% of those deaths. more than 200 I believe...

It's amazing to me that people believe the government can't do anything right, yet believe the government is capable of these ultra-intricate mega-conspiraces.

you can not fight terrorism people...but you can prevent it. there is a big difference between the people who staged the 911 attack and a school shooter.
