No signs of foul play found in Irondequoit woman's death

Updated story (Nov. 16, 2021): At first believed to be a "suspicious unattended death," the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office has determined a woman "died as a reslt of a medical episode," Irondequoit Police Chief Alan Laird announced Tuesday.

Police were originally called to the home in the Sea Breeze neighborhood after a woman's body was discovered on Nixon Drive Saturday afternoon.

The medical examiner determined there was no foul play after conducting an autopsy. Laird said the victim's identity will not be released.

Original story (Nov. 13, 2021): Irondequoit police are investigating a "suspicious unattended death" in the Sea Breeze neighborhood, Chief Alan Laird announced Saturday.

Police were called at 12:30 p.m. to Nixon Drive, which runs perpendicular to Culver Road and is directly across from Seabreeze Amusement Park, to check the welfare of a woman.

They found her dead and are treating it as a "suspicious unattended death," Laird said. The chief didn't provide any other context or detail about the incident, including how she died, who called them to the home, and why someone was concerned about the woman. It also remains unclear where the body was located.

Police are working with the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Officer to determine the cause of death.

The woman's identity is being withheld pending notification of her family.

The New York State Police and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were providing assistance at the scene.
