ISIL Press Officer Abu Mosa Killed By Syrian Army

Abu Mosa, the press officer of ISIL (ISIS), has been killed in an attack on a Syrian airbase. ISIL is currently fighting against Syrian government forces, in addition to its campaign in Iraq, that has been met by United States airstrikes. He was killed by members of the Syrian army who are loyal to the President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.

The U.S. Department of State confirmed Mosa's death in a tweet:

In a recent interview with Vice News, Mosa promised to "raise the flag of Allah in the White House." You can watch the full Vice News interviews with Abu Mosa below.

This week, ISIL released a video showing the beheading of American journalist James Foley. FBI hostage negotiators referred to the murder and video dissemination as a public relations move and recruitment effort from ISIL. It is unknown if Mosa was at all involved with keeping Foley hostage or with his eventual murder
