Israel closes east Jerusalem offices used by Hamas

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police say they have raided and shut down a pair of offices in east Jerusalem that were allegedly used by the militant Palestinian group Hamas.

Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says no arrests were made in Tuesday's raid. He wouldn't say what the offices were used for. The premises were ordered closed for a month.

Israel, the U.S. and the EU consider Hamas a terrorist group because of its suicide bombings and other attacks aimed at Israeli civilians.

Israel has banned the group from operating in areas under its control, including east Jerusalem, the section of the holy city claimed by the Palestinians.

Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, when it ousted rivals from the secular Fatah party. The Fatah-led Palestinian Authority governs in the West Bank.

@J - Irgun had given up its separate guns and terrorist activities almost thirty years prior to becoming a party of govrenment. Hamas remains an active terrorist oprganization, actively trying to bring about the destruction of a neighboring state.

So? There are plenty of neo-Kahanists among the Settlers. The Society of Humanistic Judaism has documented that these groups are behind the recent arson attack on the mosque in Tuba-Zangaria last month, and Rabbis for Human Rights has documents a significant number of clandestine attacks on innocent farmers and families in the West Bank. Hamas is in Gaza, so there is no valid excuse for treating the people of the West Bank so maliciously.

Like it or not . . . East Jerusalem belongs to Israel now, spoils of war the Muslims started & LOST!

@Khalid: so the 10 yr old niece could not visit the convicted terrorist. What about the Israeli soldier, abducted by Hamas and either his closest relatives, nor even the Red Cross where aloud to see him within 5 years of improsonment. The Israelis are much more humane than your palis friends. In my opinion they are too humane.

You know what, #$%$ man! What do any of you know about Israelis, Zionists, or anything for that matter. The Jews have been brutally persecuted by Christians throughout Europe for centuries, until Nazi Germany tried to kill them off all together. Zionism is the concept that Jews should have a homeland of their own where they can escape from persecution. In 1947, most of the world agreed with that and divided Palestine into two states, A Jewish State and an Arab State. The Arabs did not accept that arrangement and proceeded with a war of attrition that continues until this very day!! We are never going to let what happened to us in WWII happen to us again. I suggest these Palestinians sit down and hammer out a deal before there is nothing left of the West Bank for their state. You can ask Native how that worked out for the American Indians. Some of you continue to refer to the Jews as ZioNazis and I trust that you have no idea what Nazis or Zionists are. But I must admit, it's a catchy term, sounds good. ZioNazi.ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi ZioNazi How's that! So? How does any of this rant that justify illegal settlement expansion? It doesn't. Had you taken a logic, you would know what a tu quoque fallacy is, and know how to avoid it.
      • der Spurlockerer 6 mths ago
Who decided that the settlement expansions are illegal? You? The U.N.?
What's legal and what isn't seem to depend on what suits you.

A tu quoque fallacy isn't that exactly what Palestinian propaganda is so very adept at?

best Solution, West Bank must go Back to where it belongs witch Jordan, and Gaza to Egypt.
      • Chuck 7 mths ago
Your "best solution" is only a best solution for the Middle East's Islamic and militant movements. Eastern Israel will never realize a military vacuum; if the IDF doesn't control it one or more militant factions will. What makes you believe that Egypt can control Gaza's radicals from Cairo when Hamas can't even control splinter radical groups from Gaza? Egypt certainly would love to control the land but she doesn't want the risk of being sucked into another war with Israel because of the inability to police Gaza's radical elements.

The Palestinians are responsible for the breakdown the peace negotiations with Israel. The peace negotiations are breaking down because of their refusal to return to negotiations without any preconditions. The negotiations are breaking down because of their unilateral approach to the UN trying to by-pass a negotiated peace agreement.
Don't forget their rejection of all major two-state proposals beginning with UN Resolution 181 in 1947, though the Clinton proposals at Camp David in 2000, and the Taba negations in 2001, and the post Annapolis negotiations in which both sides reached agreement of 95% of a peace agreement (according to the Palestinian negotiators) from which the Palestinians then walked away..

Since Hamas rules the Gaza strip, shouldn't the Hamas leader speak at the UN regarding possible statehood? After all, he represents the people there.

Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents
one-tenth of one percent of the landmass. But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all.
And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today...No matter how many land

I surprised this "office" was allowed to operate at all. Few nations tolerate organizations seeking the violent overthrow of the state for any length of time.

      The article says:
"other attacks aimed at Israeli civilians." Means:
it is the "Ground Strikes" Launching Rockets from the Ground by Hamas.

Jews existed in Israel more than 3000 years until now, Jesus is a Jew!
the Jews who continually lived in the Holy land faced Arab attacks.
No one considered themselves to be "Palestinian" until the 1960's when Arafat came along and invented them

Don't just shut down the offices. Put a bullet in the brains of the Hamas dogs. Thats what you do with rabid animals, you know.

The list of America's enemies who have been terminated is long - starting with Arafat, then Hussein, bin laden, and Kaddafy. Now we need to use our drones in hamastan. Gaza is a wonderfully target-rich environment, and its time to get to work.

@Khalid: What technology has this "Islam" invented in the last 5 years, hmmmmm? 8^D

I challenge Khalid ibn-Kalbi to face the IDF himself, instead of sending gay "Palestinian" squatters with bombs in their underpants.......

      The article says:
"Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, when it ousted rivals from the secular Fatah party"
well the truth is Palestinian presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections, conducted in three stages, were held over the course of 2005 and into early 2006. Hamas won municipal seats throughout the West Bank and Gaza, through candidates running either as independents or on behalf of Hamas. It surprised the world, however, when it won 76 of 132 parliamentary seats in the parliamentary election on January 25, 2006. The victory gave Hamas the right to form the government.
