Israel: Egyptian election results are 'disturbing'

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's defense minister says initial results from Egypt's parliamentary elections are "very, very disturbing."

Few official results have been released from the first round vote, but leaked counts point to a clear majority for Islamist parties led by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Saturday that he hopes that Egypt's first parliament to be seated after the ouster of longtime leader Hosni Mubarak will respect international treaties, including its shaky 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

Israel's main fear is the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been cool to the peace treaty and has close ties with the ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip. The election is being held in stages and the final outcome won't be known until next year.

If the Egyptian military accepts the election results, and that's a big "if," the new government will likely open the border to the Gaza strip. Israel will not like it, but its survival will not depend on it.

We're stuck. On the one hand we espouse democratic elections. However, when the people elect office holders we don't like, we become angry with democracy.

Gary ...that is a complete over simplification of the facts on several counts.

Israel likes to tout its status as a democracy, but as soon as another country's democratic election does not go the way it would like it to go, it is deemed 'disturbing'. Shows how they really feel about democracy.

It's an opinion. They find the election of the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies disturbing.
Now, if they invaded upon the election of the Muslim Brotherhood, that would show something. Otherwise, it is just the statement of an opinion.

I suppose quite a few Egyptians find them disturbing too. And they must live under new government.

Green Glory, who knows what you are talking about. If Egypt is such a great country, which I believe it is, then how could Israel insult or humiliate her?
Israel has been attacked and intimidated by Egypt and other neighbors for far too long. Time to stop, step up to a normalized peace for the sake of all the peoples.

What did Israel expect to happen? Mubarak kept the Islamists down by force for 30 years or so. With him out of the picture the Brotherhood has made its big move. Egypt is the heart of Islam with many disenfranchised, unemployed young men. It's like a time bomb whose time has come to explode. Israel should have made peace with Palestinians as soon as Arafat was out of the picture. As difficult as it may be, they will have to make peace at some point, otherwise it will be 1948 all over again.

The only people the arabs care about are the arabs, and many times they don't care about their brothers either.

Israel has the ear and eye of the world. Your negative comment confirm this. The reason is they have defended their boarders, defended their people, which include a half million islamic Israelites. When they say I am going to punch you in the nose they mean it and its coming your way. I wish America would take the que from Israel gain back some of our respect.

I think the real problem is the Egyptians didn't elect an Israeli as Prime Minister, or the Kinnesset to lead Egypt so they can trash the Egyptians like they have the Palestinians.

People around the globe have been awakening to the jew regimes in our u.s.a., britain, france and other sad european countries.

they have witnessed the ways the jew regimes wage criminal war on lesser nations.....yugoslavia, lebanon, venezuela, irag, iran, bolivia, libya, syria, afghanistan, pakistan, etc.

they witnessed their assassinators.... Cia-moe's sod droning and murdering opposition leaders.

they witness their propaganda machine (jews news....hollywitz....pbs....npr) spewing lies and phoney polls and comments.....to shape the minds of the lesser intelligent.

they have awakened to the massive sea of migrants.....changing the voting power of the natives.

ellis island and the mexican border have become a huge pipeline for new votes for the jew regimes.

now....we know why the germans extracted "rough justice".

it will not be only germans next time.....it will be traditional americans, brits, french, russians, south americans, arabs, eskimos.....

and it will not be long.....the stakes are now too high.

      free our u.s.a. dump colonel kantor....sergeant schultz-wasserman....the 40 jew senators....the non-fed reserve....the appointees everywhere....the jew-spanic supreme court....

and the two aipac-owned parties....who control every phoney poll and every bogus election.

      fre america......enjoy president ron paul.

"Disturbing" is the wrong word. It's a realization of the radicalization of the region. Think about it you have people who cut human beings heads off, and they also have WMD. It's a pressure cooker with generations of disturbed male's from decades of war.
Its rip for a religious dictator to bring together all these regional religious Mosque/state systems.

The muslim brother hood must recognise Israel's right to exist and Israel must make peace with its neighbours no matter who is in government, the ultimate goal is peace between both parties , as the current strategic calculations is so fluid in the middle east and only a realistic and proactive assessment of international relations between nation states can ensure regional stabilty and world peace

Israel needs to accept and abide by UN resolutions before asking the Egyptians to respect existing treaties!! They go both ways!!!
