Israel targets Gaza militants after mortar attack

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says it has attacked targets in the Gaza Strip after militants in the territory fired mortars into Israel.

The military says the air force hit "terrorists in Gaza as they were preparing to launch rockets toward Israel" on Thursday.

Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kidra says two men were wounded when a drone fired at their motorcycle.

A Palestinian security official says the men were militants. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to media.

Flare-ups along the border have declined since Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers fought an eight-day battle in 2012, but violent incidents occur occasionally.

On Wednesday, a Palestinian militant from the Islamic Jihad was killed in an explosion in Gaza. The Israeli military denied involvement.
