    Israel welcomes EU sanctions on Iran

    Associated Press – Mon, Jan 23, 2012

    JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is welcoming a decision by the European Union to impose an oil embargo on Iran as part of wider sanctions over Iran's nuclear program.

    Netanyahu called the embargo "a step in the right direction." He was speaking at a Monday meeting of his Likud Party.

    Israel and the West accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies that.

    Israel views Iran as an existential threat because of its nuclear and missile programs, references to Israel's destruction by the Iranian president and Tehran's support of militants in Gaza and Lebanon.

    Netanyahu has said he hopes stepped-up international sanctions will persuade Iran to give up its nuclear program. Israel has not ruled out the possibility of attacking Iran.

      Israel should shut it's collective yaps on commenting on Iranian sanctions. Israel is a HUGE problem by it's self regardless of Iran developing nuclear weapons. When Israel jumps on the bandwagon everyone else feels the need to jump off...or take a shower if they don't.

      There are a lot of Nations that have Nukes but will never use them including the US will never do so again unless we are attacked with one. But i ran will use one as soon as they get one and others as soon as they get them. First they will send two or three to Israel. Then some to rest of their neighbors and to US for standing up to them. Just so they can rule at first middle east them the World. I had Indian friends growing up in Arizona, and they seemed like they were fond of all ethnicities. What is the source of your discontent with Israel? I mean, they didn't ask us to to to war. And we've never lost any American soldiers in any of the Israeli conflicts, whereas we have in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. Do you really expect us to believe a nation of 7 million people persuades American to go to war??

        And it should this time, because Bibi is telling the truth. Iran IS working to develop atomic weapons, Iran IS the target of sanctions by both American and United Nations, and Iran IS threatening the existence of Israel and the interests of the United States. Closing the Straights of Hormuz will be the provocation. Are you equally critical of what the Iranians are doing? If not, why not?
