Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arriving in Ottawa today

OTTAWA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrives in Ottawa today for a three-day visit to Canada.

Israel’s grave concerns about Iran’s alleged nuclear ambitions are expected to feature in discussions between Netanyahu and Prime Minister Stephen Harper when the two meet this morning.

Speculation is rampant within the international community about whether Israel might launch a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Harper has faced criticism in some circles for repeatedly echoing Israeli concerns that Iran wouldn’t hesitate to use nuclear weapons and that it poses a “grave threat to peace and security.”

The two prime ministers are also expected to discuss the deteriorating situation in Syria as that nation teeters on the brink of full blown civil war.

Netanyahu’s visit comes a little more than a month after Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird visited Israel and said the country had no greater friend than Canada.

After his visit to Canada, Netanyahu moves on to Washington for talks with U.S. President Barack Obama, who has been critical of the Israeli leader for not stopping the construction of new settlements in the West Bank.
