ITC to investigate Apple following Motorola patent complaint

Motorola Mobility last month filed a patent complaint with the International Trade Commission against Apple (AAPL). The wholly owned Google (GOOG) subsidiary was seeking an import ban against the Cupertino-based company’s devices over the alleged infringement of seven patents, and the ITC on Tuesday announced that it will now investigate Motorola’s complaint. Florian Mueller of FOSSPatents notes that the complaint against Apple doesn’t include any standard-essential patents, making an import ban far more likely if Apple is found to be in the wrong. The ITC investigation is expected to be completed sometime in 2014.
