IzArc review

IzArc opens compressed files as well as creating new archives or adding to existing ones, all through a smooth interface. It can open most kinds of archived files, and it offers quite a few options in terms of output formats as well.

Pros

Configuration options: When you set up IzArc, you can choose which types of compressed files it will automatically be associated with. You can also choose to convert from one archive format to another, encrypt and decrypt archived files, and choose the level of compression you prefer when creating a new archive.

Drag and drop: Files are easily added to this app via drag and drop. You can use this mechanism to create a new archive or to open an existing one, even if the file type isn't one of those you've selected to be associated with the app automatically.

Cons

Creation limitations: While IzArc can open a huge list of archive file types, it can only create archives in 11 different formats. These do include most of the majors, though, like 7-ZIP, TAR, YZ1, BGA, and BZIP2.

Bottom Line

IzArc is a nice, free alternative to some of the better known archiving apps. Because it does support so many file types, you don't have to worry about not being able to open the files you receive, no matter where they're coming from. If you need to create archives in a particular format, you'll want to check to see if the software supports it. But for most users, the options provided in this app are more than sufficient.
