Any female MMA fighter interested in improving her skills in mixed martial arts would be wise to save the date for next year's G2 Summit.
This year's summit was a huge success with some of the biggest names in women's MMA (WMMA) and their coaches conducting seminars for groups of eager participants.
Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cris Cyborg Santos (10-1) led an MMA seminar featuring kicks, punches and working the Muay Thai clinch.
Julie Kedzie (16-8) led a wrestling seminar with her coach, Greg Jackson. Julie has a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce. Jackson has trained many successful fighters, including current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre and UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones.
The seminar attracted women of all ages and skill levels. One of the youngest participants, Courtney Cardoza, age 8, has been practicing BJJ since February of 2010.
Veronica Cardoza, Courtney's mum commented, "It was an awesome experience for all the girls, not just Courtney. You could see it in all the ladies' faces even after hours of training, they still wanted to keep going."
Courtney sent her response via facebook (in her own words and spelling): "I liked the G2 sumite because I Iiked all the seimnars and the people i met at the seimnars. I liked the only 2 fights I went to like the Tuff-N-uff fights and the UFC Fight (UFC132) and i liked meeting my friends Sam, Lana, Mashell (Michelle) and alllll the trainers and the girls that did the seminars with me, they helped me a lot. I liked meeting all of my friends on facbook. its hard to pick 1 (seminar) bcause they all were really good and they made me work really hard. i liked all of them bcause i can use the things i learned at my tournament in 7 days. i am 8 and i started bjj in feb last year."
Costs of the three day event were kept low to allow as many people as possible to attend.
Janet Martin attended the G2 Female Fight Summit as a hands-on sponsor. Janet represents Blackeye Promotions, a major sponsor for the event. She was there to help out in many different capacities and to support Blackeye's efforts for WMMA.
"Blackeye Promotions is proud to be a sponsor of the G2 Female Fight Summit and create the opportunity for female fighters from across the nation to join in community and participate in top notch MMA training provided from some of the best fighters in WMMA, including Cris dos Santos. Ms. dos Santos not only provided the female fighters with outstanding MMA technical training - they benefited from her personal attention and support of WMMA. Ms. dos Santos continues to serve WMMA and its fans as a role model both in and out of the cage."
