Fox may have just lost a big fish: Jada Pinkett Smith doesn’t believe she’s returning to Batman prequel “Gotham” for Season 2.

The actress behind Fox villain Fish Mooney first made the announcement on Friday’s “Live With Kelly & Michael.” When asked about her participation on the upcoming sophomore run, Pinkett Smith told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan: “I don’t think so, I signed for a year and the year’s up.”

“I’m holding out hope because, you never know, Fish Mooney could show up anywhere,” Strahan replied.

Pinkett Smith agreed: “Yeah, she could show up anywhere. You never know!”

After breaking fans’ hearts, the actress teased “great things” coming up on “Gotham,” which will air four more episodes this season.

Fox did not immediately respond to TheWrap‘s request for comment on Pinkett Smith’s likely pending departure.

“Gotham” has been a big hit for struggling Fox this fall season, though the comic book adaptation has settled a bit in the ratings since its strong start. As an 8 p.m. show, the Bruce Wayne origin story has been forced to be a self-starter.

Paired with a ratings slump for “Sleepy Hollow,” Monday nights have not sustained as the must-see live tune-in evening that Dana Walden and Gary Newman’s network had hoped.

The DC Universe show also stars Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue. In addition to nightclub owner and mob leader Mooney, other villains have begun to take shape late in the show’s first season.

“Gotham” was created by Bruno Heller.
