Jake Gyllenhaal Is Getting into Television News in the 'Nightcrawler' Trailer

The world of television news in Los Angeles looks awfully seedy in the first trailer for Nightcrawler, a Jake Gyllenhaal-starring film, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in the fall

For the most part, the trailer does little to illuminate the plot, only making the movie more mysterious and intriguing. An emaciated Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, described in the plot summary as "a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism." We see Bloom interacting with Rene Russo's newswoman, and Bloom aiming a camera at gruesome crime. "You have to make the money to buy a ticket," Bloom repeats as the trailer crescendos. The film is directed by Dan Gilroy, a screenwriter making his directorial debut.

Over the weekend, we got our initial introduction to Bloom in the form of a YouTube video in which he looks for a job. It's hard to get a read on this movie in general, but we'll have our eyes on it when it debuts at Toronto.
