Japanese court says Samsung did not infringe upon an Apple syncing patent

Apple still wants to ban Samsung phones that aren’t even for sale anymore

A Japanese court on Friday gave Samsung (005930) a much-needed pat on the head by ruling that the Korean manufacturer did not infringe upon one of Apple’s (AAPL) utility patents. Reuters reports that Tokyo District Court Judge Tamotsu Shoji said that Samsung’s technology did not violate an Apple patent that covers syncing between mobile devices and personal computers. Shoji’s ruling is a welcome development for Samsung, although not big enough to outweigh the $1 billion thumping the company received from a California patent trial jury last week.
