Jason Clarke Definitely Not Returning For War of the Planet of the Apes (Exclusive)

Little is known about the plot of ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’, the third film in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ prequel saga, but one thing’s for sure: Jason Clarke will NOT be returning as ape sympathiser Malcolm.

The Aussie actor confirmed that he was definitely not involved in the sequel to 2014’s ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ while talking to Yahoo Movies UK about his new film ‘Everest’ (in cinemas on Friday, 18 September).

He told us an emphatic “no” when we asked him if he’d back for the third ‘Apes’ film, saying that the film’s possible plot had been discussed “a little bit” but that he wasn’t at liberty to divulge any further info.

It’s not a huge surprise that Clarke’s isn’t returning as ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ is rumoured be set a decade after the events of ‘Dawn’ which ended with a skirmish between apes and the last of the surviving men.

The 2014 sequel to ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ had a completely new human cast to its predecessor, so it looks like director Matt Reeves will do the same for ‘War’ too.

Andy Serkis will likely return as Caesar as Matt Reeves told Collider the next film would see the lead primate “becoming the seminal figure for ape history. [It’s] like myth ascension, him becoming the ape Moses.”

We’ll have more from Jason Clarke talking about ‘Everest’ and ‘Terminator Genisys’ in an exclusive interview on Yahoo Movies UK next week.

‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ is coming to cinemas in 2017.
