    Javier Colon wins NBC's singing show 'The Voice'

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Soulful crooner Javier Colon was crowned the inaugural winner of "The Voice," NBC's new singing contest.

    Colon triumphed over three other finalists when the audience vote was announced on Wednesday's live season finale. He will receive a $100,000 prize and a recording contract.

    A slim, 2 percent margin separated Colon from second-place Dia Frampton, 23, of St. George, Utah, host Carson Daly said. The other finalists were Vicci Martinez, 26, of Tacoma, Wash., and Beverly McClellan, 41, of Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

    "Wow, thank you," a stunned-looking Colon said as confetti rained down on him. "The three women behind me are absolutely awesome and it was a pleasure to be here with them."

    "The Voice" featured pop stars Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as "coaches" for the contestants. In a twist on the talent show format, the contestants initially were picked sight unseen and on the basis of their voice.

    Colon was coached by Maroon 5 frontman Levine, who lifted his arms in victory when Colon's name was announced and then rushed on stage to hug him. Shelton, who coached Frampton, smiled and applauded.

    The other pro-contestant pairings were McClellan-Aguilera and Martinez-Green.

    During the live finale, the contestants had the chance to perform with other famous singers. Miranda Lambert, who is married to fellow country star Shelton, sang with Frampton; Stevie Nicks with Colon; Pat Monahan of Train with Martinez and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder with McClellan.

    Based on a Dutch series, "The Voice" proved a much-needed ratings hit for NBC and will return to the network's lineup. The next season's casting call is under way at NBC's website.

    Besides the blind audition, the show brought another fresh wrinkle to TV: rocker McClellan and bluesy singer Martinez are openly gay. That contrasts with TV's No. 1 singing show, Fox's "American Idol," which has included gay singers who didn't address their sexuality until after the competition ended, such as Adam Lambert.

    The four finalists will start a six-city concert tour in late July, joined by four other top finishers: Frenchie Davis, a Washington, D.C., native; Nakia of Austin, Texas; Casey Weston, Naples, Fla., and Xenia, Temecula, Calif.

      javier has a great voice but they should have let someone else win, he s already been signed to labels and released albums but im happy for him he has a great voice. hopefully the public will support this album more

      I thought this was a singing competition, why do you need to address your sexuality at all unless a porn tape is required for the show. Idiots. Who cares.

        Agree Howard....it would be SOOOOO not accepted if I went arounded and touted that I was straight and put it in everyone's face constantly. I'm sick and tired of having to constantly hear about gay rights.

        Definitely agree about X-tina......she seemed to be trying to make the show all about her, speaking during someone else's turn......did not like.......and as Jimmy Fallon says when he impersonates Daly: "Hi, I'm Carson Daly, and I'm a MASSIVE TOOL".....truer words never spoken......

      The Voice is a great show. Actually liked it better than Idol. Need to keep the guys judges and get rid of Christina. She makes it about her and not the singers.

        I agree with Hello. I like Christina as a performer but as a coach on the show... she DID make it about her 90% of the time. She's an attention hog. I'm sure the show will want to keep her as she is a big star ( some would argue that since her last album/tour didn't do well) but we'll she if she she signs on to come back again.

      my pick didn't win but I am not a music connoisseur, Javier was probably the best. I think Adam was an excellent coach, he would of been my coach pick (and my personal pick if I was picking). he seems to be a grand person and moral...an unusual trait in the entertainment business (if you believe the hype).

      The show is a vast improvement over Idol,which relies on the auditions, especially the bad ones, as a lead in for the competition- the coaches on 'Voice' are invested in the contestants and it shows in the final product.

      I had Dia pegged to win it within three weeks after my original favorite, Vicci seemed too inconsistent. HOWEVER, even if it was way too late for voting, that duet Javier sang with Stevie Nicks tonight was... incredible. She may not be able to do what she used to do but she was able to help guide him through the trickier parts of "Landslide" wonderfully. Hearing Colon's vocals on that song tonight TOTALLY justified his much - deserved win. It was pure beauty. I'm still blown away. I hope this will be released for iTunes.

      Can they please recast the host and dump Carson Daly? He performed with the spark of a cardboard cutout. And yes, Yahoo should NOT have put the winner's name on the front page. I, too, had not yet seen the finale and now I don't need to.

      This is my new favorite show. Congrats to Javier. Best voice won. Beverly was my second favorite. No offense, but Dia grates on my nerves in a major way.
